Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has revealed that he will have to wait and see about the fitness of Patrik Schick ahead of Saturday’s clash with Augsburg.

Schick picked up the injury in Leverkusen’s 1-0 DFB-Pokal win at Bayern Munich before missing last week’s league game at St. Pauli and, despite returning as an unused substitute in the 1-0 Champions League home win over Inter Milan, Alonso would not be prepare to feature this weekend.

Alonso has spoken about the Czech Republic international’s fitness ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Augsburg. “It is possible he will play, but we don’t want to take any risks. We will see if he feels ready. No decision has been made yet.”

If Schick is unable to help the team. Alonso may have to use Florian Wirtz to play as a false nine or Nathan Tella to help out as Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is still out from injury.

Whether he will be fit to face Augsburg on Saturday was still uncertain on Friday. When Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso held his pre-match press conference.

“There was still a risk on Tuesday, so we didn’t play him. Hopefully he’s feeling better now,” said Xabi Alonso.

If Schick misses out, Martin Terrier or Nathan Tella could start up front alongside Florian Wirtz.
